A deals email that is allowed to send nothing
The public no-send rule matters more than filling an issue.
Public no-send rule
No deal is sent without direct evidence or the exact label “not tested — price only.” A price claim also needs a verified baseline and one of three outcomes: genuine drop, normal fluctuation or marketing. If the evidence does not support a classification, the issue does not send.
Brands cannot sponsor a deal card or buy a classification.
Formats we’re watching
Three industry formats we are studying before adopting anything like them: Wirecutter’s “For You” pilot — a personalized weekly email that deliberately carries no product recommendations — Wirecutter’s 2026 Best New Picks Awards, a discovery franchise built on 71 winners chosen from 10,000+ evaluated products with 4,000+ tested direct, and Tom’s Guide’s newsletter relaunch as a model for rebuilding a useful direct-reader habit. If we ever launch an annual picks franchise, it will be built the same way: from tested products only, with the counts published.
For bench-proof video, PC Gamer’s Critical Rig is the reference for any future Gadget Audit test-video strand: always dated and unedited. PCMag’s Lab Report is a YouTube test series, not a newsletter, and is tracked as video—not added to any newsletter count.
